Hmmm.
Day one down.. and I did…. horribly >_<
I am confident that by tomorrow night I won’t have spent another dime, so will be much closer to the goal.
As long as I stay in this weekend rather than going out (and between work and study it’s more than likely I won’t have any expenditure over the weekend).
Stay tuned. The average for week one will tell the truth!
Day 1
Daily spending: $19.5
Breakdown: Smokes $15 Powerade $4.5
Weekly spend $19.5/$56
Total spend: $0/$1456
Day 0.5
Well, Half way through day 1, and $0 spent so far!
But; I’m out of smokes. I seem to have found a semi happy medium - I will buy a 20 pack and make it last the three days.
It will make my first day look like $15/$8 however if I can keep my expenditure to less than $1 tomorrow, I will be in budget.
Will update tonight.
It will be tough.
I’m less than an hour in and the doubt has already begun.
Day to day, I would be able to get by, and the first week or two should be okay, however the following factors are really going to hurt me:
- I smoke - at $18 a pack this will be huge. I’ve already cut down to a pack every three days, however that only leaves me with $2 a day; something has to give. Perhaps time to go back to the poor student days of rolling, or finally nut-up and quit.
- I drive a non economical car - this will be okay at first, as I filled up a few days ago and don’t really drive that much, however over the long term $60 tanks will start to hurt.
On the positive though:
- I have purchased an annual public transport pass from my state government, allowing me ‘free’ travel on all public transport systems, so no expenses getting to work
- I have started taking my lunch to work every day and drinking free instant coffee and water only. This will save me at least $15 a day.
Only time will tell.
Goodnight.
Eight a day!
I write this in a peculiar state of confusion and clarity.
It is a long story, and will slowly be spelt out over time, however the primary key right now, is eight a day - eight dollars a day to be spent - no more (probably no less!)
Eight dollars a day will allow me to achieve my savings target of $20,000 in 6 months, needed to make my apartment a reality, to finally get out of my parents hair and to allow my son and I his own space.
It will be a challenge. It may fail horribly, however I will do everything I can to make sure that does not happen.
Stay tuned. Day one started right now.
